Birthdays of the Month

This past month, one of our little soccer players turned 7, and we got to celebrate this special moment together!

Every month, we cherish celebrating the birthday boys and girls around here with a themed party. As always, the party was beautiful! The theme of the party was his favorite sport, soccer, and the decoration and treats were prepared with great love by our staff.

We are so thankful for everyone helping us through donations.

It is because they are the ones who allow us to provide such special memories for our children.

June Festivities

Those of us from the Northeast of Brazil know how hectic the month of June is here in the region. It’s a month of celebration with lots of corn food and the typical “forró” dance. The theme chosen for this year was: “Sertão do Maná” (which means the “Brazilian outback” of Lar Maná).

The pedagogical team taught our children about woodwork and the importance of wood engraving to the northeastern culture. After learning about it, the children made their own artwork to decorate the party. Everything was beautiful!

Besides the art made by the children, all the decoration and the food were made by the Lar Maná staff. Everyone was involved in some way to offer a beautiful party for the children.

A Special Tribute

Our dear director, Ana Valéria, was honored with the title of “Angel” of the Guardianship Council, for demonstrating a work of excellence in managing our home and caring for rescued children in a state of social vulnerability, with great love, commitment and dedication.

She was represented by Lar Maná’s Council president, Ricardo Guerra, in the 1st National Workshop of the Brazilian Tutelary Council, held in the city of Paulista, Pernambuco, which was attended by a group of local authorities. We are honored to be recognized for our work and this tribute extends itself to all of you who partner with us to truly fight for the rights of children.

Fundraising

Learning new strategies to provide a better quality of life for our children is essential to us. With this in mind, our director Ana Valéria participated in the ABCR 2022 Festival (Brazilian Fundraising Association), which took place the last week of June in the city of São Paulo.

1500 people from all over Brazil participated in the event representing their non-profit institutions. It was an incredible opportunity to learn about fundraising and how to manage Lar Maná in the best way possible.

Vaccination for the Employees

Here at Lar Maná, health is a serious thing! All of our employees received the 4th dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, thanks to the coordination of the Health Department of the City of Paulista. We are immensely grateful for all the people who worked together.

COVID testing

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the COVID virus has taken away the peace not only from Brazilians, but from the whole world. Here in the state of Pernambuco we are experiencing an increase in the number of cases and to be safe, our little ones took the COVID-19 test here at Lar Maná. Thank God, they all tested negative!

We would like to thank nurse Ana, who came through the Health Department of the City of Paulista to test the children. She was very careful and patient with all of them.

Committee Meeting and Hearing

In June, we also had a concentrated hearing here at Lar Maná. The objective was to speed up the judicial processes, shortening the time of the children in the institution.

Dr. Ricardo Leitão, judge of the Childhood and Youth Court of the city of Paulista; Dr. Rafaela, prosecutor of the Public Ministry; Anamelia and Érika, from the Childhood Court of Paulista; Dr. Ana Cláudia, public defender; Bárbara, social worker from Lar Maná; and Cláudia, our psychologist, all participated in the hearing. Many important issues were discussed and solved during this meeting. All with the purpose of offering the best to the sheltered children.

Itaú Bank Social Program

Lar Maná works to provide shelter and reintegration to children and adolescents rescued from a state of social vulnerability. For the past 6 months, with the help of the Itaú Bank’s Social Program, we have also held meetings with women from the community around Lar Maná, to discuss issues they may struggle with and offer support.

The theme of the last meeting was children education, where the psychologist Nataly and educator Lucileide gave a lesson on “Parenting styles and how they can influence the development of children”.

After the meeting, the women got to watch their children present PowerPoints of what they have learned so far in the computer lessons we have provided here for them.

Besides all the activities, we also celebrated the group’s birthdays of the month together! It is a privilege for us to be able to make an impact beyond the doors of our home. ㅤ

Environment Day

June 5th is World Environment Day. The date is a reminder of the importance of nature conservation.

With this day in mind, our children participated in an activity with our dear Irineu, who is the one responsible for taking care of our garden with great love. He got to show us all how to care for our plants and trees.

Donation from the Navy Team

Those who have been following us on social media are aware of how much the Naval Hospital of Recife group has helped and supported Lar Maná’s mission through various donations.

Once again, this very special group visited us to say hello to the children and bring more donations. We are extremely thankful for their generosity!
